As a physician and health care executive well accustomed to the lightning-fast pace and ever-changing conditions of emergency rooms, Jim LaBelle, MD, is uniquely qualified to develop and implement groundbreaking medical management functions for Scripps Health in an era of rapid change.

Named chief medical officer on Jan. 1, 2013, Dr. LaBelle plays a critical role in expanding and maintaining partnerships built with physicians over the last decade. Dr. LaBelle has practiced emergency medicine for more than 25 years. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physician Executives.
Prior to his appointment as chief medical officer, he was corporate vice president of quality, physician co-management and medical management. In addition, he served two terms as chief of staff and, in 2005, accepted a position as medical director of clinical quality.

Dr. LaBelle earned his medical degree at the University of Washington and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He also holds a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering and a health care executive master’s degree in business administration from the University of California, Irvine. Dr. LaBelle is a co-founder and past president and CEO of Connect the Docs Multi-Specialty Network, Inc., a 180-member Independent Physician Association, as well as a co-founder and past chairman of Connect the Docs Medical Management, LLC., and also serves as a board member for The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI).
