Volunteering at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla

Scripps La Jolla volunteers enjoy an enriching experience as part of our caring team. Whether your interest is giving back to the community, exploring a career in health care, or looking for a rewarding way to spend your free time, we strive to make your volunteer experience personally rewarding.

Our volunteers help in patient care units or provide valuable assistance in support areas, information desks or gift shops.

New volunteer opportunities at the new Prebys Cardiovascular Institute

It’s an exciting time to volunteer at Scripps. In 2015, the new Prebys Cardiovascular Institute will open its doors to patient care. As a Scripps volunteer at this new facility, you will have the opportunity to touch patients’ lives. Whether assisting employees, greeting visitors or helping patients at their bedside, our volunteers provide an invaluable service.

Volunteers must be age 15 or older an commit to serving at least one, four-hour shift per week.

Special volunteer programs

We even offer special programs for stay at home moms, empty nesters and couples who are interested in volunteering. We also offer pet therapy volunteer opportunities.

What are the requirements for volunteering?

We are looking for caring, dependable people willing to make a long-term commitment of six months and at least 100 hours. Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and abilities — all that’s required is a desire to help others.

Men and women, college students and high school students (minimum age 15) are eligible. As a volunteer, you will be required to attend an orientation seminar and safety training. We offer training programs and continuing education to help volunteers remain efficient and effective.

What positions are offered?

How do I get started?

Simply call our volunteer services office at 858-626-6994 and ask when our next volunteer orientation will be held. Attending an orientation or open house is the best way for you to see if volunteering at Scripps La Jolla is right for you.

High school volunteer applicants 15-17 years old require parental consent. The volunteer services department will review all background checks and health screenings and contact qualified candidates to schedule a placement interview.
