Peer Support

Support groups provide a safe environment where cancer patients can talk about living with cancer with others that may be having similar experiences. Support groups give people a chance to ease fears and share strengths. Scripps offers a number of support groups to help you to:

• Maintain a positive attitude and take an active role in the recovery process
• Cope with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and the side effects of treatment
• Talk about cancer to family members, friends and co-workers
• Deal effectively with doctors and hospitals
• Regain a sense of control
• Maximize your potential for healing

This group is open to women in the entire San Diego community (non-Scripps patients are welcome) as part of our educational, community outreach program.

Topics address the particular concerns of women dealing with advanced breast cancer, including:

• Treatment decisions
• Side effects of treatment
• Work-related issues
• Changing relationships with children, spouses/partners, family and friends
• End-of-life concerns
