Team Building Activities for Scripps Mercy Family Residents
The family medicine residents maintain a casual atmosphere and foster support and togetherness. The group has an annual retreat where all residents and staff spend time together for relaxation, team building and program review.
About once a quarter, an event called Residency and Faculty Together (RAFT) takes place. It gives participants in the program and faculty an opportunity to connect with each other outside clinical settings. Social activities include pumpkin carving, beach barbecues, bowling, visiting a local organic farm, piñatas, ultimate Frisbee and more.
In addition, the program hosts welcome dinners, a community medicine gathering and field trips. Residents have holiday parties, including an annual white elephant gift exchange—where everyone is a winner. In November, the residents support men’s health with an annual “Movember” mustache contest.
The residents also have an annual fantasy football league—and the competition is fierce. They also have a kickball team that competes in a local league. In 2010, the group won the league championship.
