System-wide, there are currently more than 800 post-doctoral fellows at The Scripps Research Institute. The combined activities of this institutional effort result in an academic, stimulating environment for residents and faculty alike. These resources are incorporated into the curricula for the residency program and provide the necessary balance and quality for the highly competitive fellowship positions.
Further, the department has extensively involved the clinical fellows in the educational effort. Approximately 50 percent of the Scripps Clinic internal medicine residents enter subspecialty fellowships. Of these, 60 percent stay at Scripps Clinic for this training. Our internal medicine residency graduates have been chosen for subspecialty programs in prestigious centers throughout the United States. They also receive priority consideration for our fellowship positions.
