Our support groups are facilitated by licensed professionals and are open to everyone. Support groups are free and you do not have to be a Scripps patient to join us. If you would like additional information, please call 858-626-5207.
Breast buddy support program
The Breast Buddy Support Program pairs a newly diagnosed woman with a breast cancer survivor trained to provide peer support and information to patients throughout the diagnosis, treatment and recovery process.
Young women’s breast cancer forum education and support group
The group is held twice monthly:- The first Tuesday of the month, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- The third Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Body image, dating, sex and intimacy
- Fertility and chemotherapy
- Effects of illness on marriage and new relationships
- Reconstruction options
- Re-occurrence and metastasis
- Networking with women who share similar experiences and concerns
Metastatic support group for women
This group is open to women in the entire San Diego community (non-Scripps patients are welcome) as part of our educational, community outreach program. The group is held the second Tuesday of the month, from 12 to 1 p.m. and includes a light lunch. The group is facilitated by Rhonda S. Sherman, PhD, clinical psychologist.
Topics address the particular concerns of women dealing with advanced breast cancer, including:- Treatment decisions
- Side effects of treatment
- Work-related issues
- End-of-life concerns
- Changing relationships with children, spouses/partners, family and friends
Music therapy and mindfulness
Music therapy is often used in cancer treatment to help reduce pain, anxiety and nausea caused by chemotherapy. For more information about upcoming classes, call 858-626-6248.
