Arthritis and Joint Conditions (Rheumatology)
Scripps Mercy Hospital rheumatologists offer specialty care in the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles and bones. In addition to arthritis, we care for patients with autoimmune diseases and musculoskeletal pain disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome and myositis.
Rheumatic conditions are usually associated with inflammation, almost always accompanied by pain with symptoms that can make it more challenging to perform everyday activities. Our physicians’ expertise in pain management allows us to provide the most effective and safe treatments to relieve the life-limiting effects of uncontrolled pain. We are proud to offer state-of-the-art infusion technology as well as MRIs to detect early inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis that can be treated and hopefully prevent further joint damage. These are just a few of the reasons we were recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of “America’s Best Hospitals for Rheumatology” in 2003.
We use a team approach – comprising rheumatologists, sports medicine specialists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, social workers and other health professionals. This collaborative effort allows us to work with each patient to develop an individualized treatment program.
