Single site surgery for gallbladder removal

Scripps robotic surgery program offers single-site surgery for gallbladder removal, also called a cholecystectomy. The procedure is performed through a single incision through the navel instead of a larger incision used during an open surgery, or three-to-four smaller incisions required for laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.

Single-site gallbladder surgery uses high-definition 3D imaging, guiding the surgeon and giving them a more precise view during surgery than a traditional laparoscopic surgery. With only one incision through the belly button, scars are barely visible. As a robotic surgery procedure, single-site surgery could potentially result in a faster recovery, less blood loss, reduced pain and a shorter hospital stay.

As with all robotic surgery procedures, talk to your surgeon about the benefits and risks, and whether you are a candidate for single-site gallbladder removal surgery.
