If you’re considering permanent cosmetics, it’s important that you choose a medical professional whose services are performed in a clean facility. At Scripps Clinic, safety and comfort are our top priorities. You’ll feel confident knowing we perform only the most advanced permanent cosmetic techniques and procedures available, with the goal of achieving natural looking results.

What are permanent cosmetics?

Permanent cosmetics are the result of applying permanent color pigments into the skin, either for cosmetic or medical reasons. Also known as permanent make-up, common procedures include the application of permanent eyeliner, eyebrows, lip liner, and lip shading.

Why do people choose to have permanent cosmetics applied?

Many of our patients choose to have permanent cosmetics applied for medical reasons. For example:

  • People who cannot see well enough to apply traditional make-up, because of a visual impairment.
  • People who have lost their eyebrows due to chemotherapy, burns, or a medical hair loss condition called alopecia.
  • People who want to minimize skin pigmentation problems, such as white spots caused by vitiligo.
  • Patients who have trouble applying make-up because of unsteady hands, due to medical conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, or multiple sclerosis.

Other reasons for choosing permanent cosmetics include convenience and saving time. For example, people who have permanent eyeliner and lip liner generally do not have to touch up those areas of their face with traditional make-up.

Why choose Scripps Clinic?

At Scripps Clinic, our permanent cosmetic services are performed by a medical professional in a sterile hospital environment. Our state-of-the-art digital micro-pigmentation machine provides minimal trauma to the skin, which results in less “down time” during the healing process. And, in order to provide appropriate pain control we use anesthetics that are only found in a medical setting.
