Scripps Clinic Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center
The Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center serves as Scripps Clinic’s primary site for clinical research in obesity, nutrition, eating disorders, diabetes and hypertension. The center’s staff has extensive experience in the treatment and long-term management of metabolic and nutrition issues.
The director, Ken Fujioka, M.D., is board-certified in internal medicine and clinical nutrition. His training and experience are in the areas of nutrition and metabolism, and include clinical research in obesity, diabetes, eating disorders, cholesterol problems, and hypertension.
The research conducted at the center primarily involves testing investigational medications and devices for pharmaceutical companies for future approval and use in the United States. The studies vary from a few weeks in length to a year or more, with all medical care, medication, and procedures provided at no charge to the participant. Often times, patients are compensated for their time and travel.
