Scripps Mercy Medical Group Ranked #1

SAN DIEGO- For the fourth consecutive year Scripps Mercy Medical Group (SMMG) – affiliated with Scripps Mercy Hospital — has been selected as the number one medical group in San Diego. Receiving an overall “excellent” rating from the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI) in its fourth annual survey, SMMG was commended based on ratings of quality performance and patient satisfaction.

“To receive this ranking even once is a tremendous accomplishment, no less four times in as many years,” said Kevin Hirsch, M.D., president of Scripps Mercy Medical Group. “This survey directly reflects the opinions of our patients. Their praise is the ultimate compliment we can receive.”

More than 50,000 patients drawn from primary care and multi-specialty groups throughout California responded to the CCHRI survey. Patients were asked various questions to determine medical group performance in the areas of patient access to services – primary and specialty, urgent and non-urgent — communication between physicians and patients, counseling on preventive care topics and overall care.

SMMG received scores above the Southern California average in every category, including the care received from a personal physician and nurse, the timely care and service from a physician’s office, the treatment from a specialist and the communication between a patient and a physician.

With medical offices in Hillcrest and Bonita, Scripps Mercy Medical Group comprises a team of board-certified physicians specializing in internal medicine, family practice, general practice and pediatrics. All physicians have medical staff privileges at Scripps Mercy Hospital, while pediatricians also are on the medical staff of Children’s Hospital and Health Center and Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista. SMMG patients also have access to hundreds of specialists affiliated with Scripps Health.

SMMG accepts most health plans and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many of its physicians are fluent in second languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Farsi, French, Italian, German, Urdu, Tamil and Czech.

Established in 1890 by the Sisters of Mercy, Scripps Mercy Hospital serves the San Diego and Chula Vista communities. With 700 licensed beds, more than 3,000 employees and 1,300 physicians, Scripps Mercy Hospital is San Diego’s longest established and only Catholic medical center.
