Scripps Mercy Medical Group Ranked #1 in San Diego County, #3 In California

Scripps Mercy Medical Group (SMMG) – affiliated with Scripps Mercy Hospital – recently was ranked third in overall care and first for primary care in California by the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI) in its sixth annual survey. Additionally, SMMG was ranked as the top health care group in San Diego County for the sixth year running. Receiving an overall “excellent” rating, SMMG was commended on ratings of quality performance and patient satisfaction.

“These scores demonstrate our commitment to quality, unparalleled patient care,” said Kevin Hirsch, M.D., president of Scripps Mercy Medical Group. “The results of this survey reflect our patients’ opinions, and we are proud of this tremendous accomplishment. I commend our physicians and entire staff on their excellent work and their designation as the number one medical group for primary care in our country’s most populous state.”
Patients drawn from primary care and multispecialty groups throughout California responded to the CCHRI survey. Patients were asked various questions to determine medical group performance in the areas of patient access to services (primary and specialty, urgent and non-urgent), communication between physicians and patients, counseling on preventive care topics and overall care.

“We are in an age where health care consumers demand quality,” said Tom Gammiere, chief executive of Scripps Mercy Hospital. “Agencies, like CCHRI, are making these reports public, and our consumers are very savvy. I’m very pleased that SMMG continually has raised the bar and ranked number three in the entire state for overall care. It means so much more because it was based on patient feedback.”

SMMG placed well above the 90th percentile and received scores above the state average in care received from a personal physician and nurse, timely care and service from a physician’s office, treatment from a specialist and communication between a patient and a physician.

With medical offices in Hillcrest, Bonita and Encinitas, Scripps Mercy Medical Group comprises a team of board-certified physicians specializing in internal medicine, family practice and pediatrics. In addition, SMMG patients have access to hundreds of specialists affiliated with Scripps Health. For more information about Scripps Mercy Medical Group’s physicians, visit www.scripps.org/smmg.
