Scripps La Jolla Honors Therapy Dogs at Annual Holiday Party

Event to recognize therapy dogs and handlers

The volunteer services department of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla will host its annual Pet Therapy Party on Friday, Dec. 5 at 12 noon. The event is to further recognize the exceptional work provided by this select group of therapy dogs for the well-being of the patients as well as the staff.

The holiday party is an opportunity for the dogs and their handlers to get to know each other and be rewarded for all of their hard work. Throughout the year, 25 certified therapy dogs have provided comfort and companionship by visiting with hospital patients. These visits have helped increase emotional well being, promoted healing, and improved the quality of life for the patients and staff.

Additionally, Hospital Chaplain Rev. John Whitacre will conduct a “Blessing of the Pets” at 12:30 p.m. Hospital staff and patients are also encouraged to bring their pets to be blessed.
