I Knew My Heart was in Good Hands… with Scripps

Longtime Scripps employee Jim Bowers learns firsthand about quality heart care

La jolla – bowers heart

Jim Bowers’ passion for Scripps started in the early 1970s when he was recruited from New York by the organization. He spent the next 35 years working with Scripps as the system grew to meet the health care needs of San Diego County.

During his career, Jim often talked about the high quality care patients could expect at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. In 2005, he experienced it firsthand.

Jim's rapid recovery from endocarditis

Due to a condition called endocarditis — an often terminal bacterial infection which can silently attack the heart — Jim’s aortic valve deteriorated. He chose Dr. Scot Brewster, heart surgeon at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, to replace his leaking valve.

In a matter of days, Jim “felt like himself again.”

And he’s been in great health ever since. “I owe my quick recovery to the care I got from the entire Scripps team.”

As one of America’s best hospitals in cardiac care, the Heart Center at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla offers you and your family the care your heart deserves.
