Husband Gives Gift to Honor His Wife's Compassionate Spirit

Bill McConnor donates $1 million to honor his wife's heart care team at Scripps Health

Passionate about nurturing all things living, Shirle McConnor was a masterful gardener. She belonged to five garden clubs, graciously hosted numerous garden tours and gave joy to hundreds who admired her talents.

Honoring her compassionate spirit and zest for life, Bill McConnor recently made a $1 million gift to Scripps in memory of his beloved wife.

“I found peace in making a contribution because it was Shirle’s idea. She wanted to honor the remarkable care she received from Dr. John Carson and Scripps La Jolla,” says Bill.

From heart care to house calls, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla cardiologist John Carson, MD, has been the McConnors’ physician for more than 20 years. Treating patients with cardiovascular disease at Scripps La Jolla since 1962, Dr. Carson is known for personal care and putting his patients first.

“Dr. Carson is an exceptional physician,” Bill says. “He has a big heart, and so did my wife. By supporting Scripps Cardiovascular Institute, her legacy will continue and help heal the hearts of many people in the future.”
