Scripps Health volunteer and supporter Mary Ellen Grant motivates others to get involved

Mary Ellen Grant

As an active volunteer and generous supporter of Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Mary Ellen is dedicated to enhancing health care in our growing community and enriching the lives of others.

Recognizing her philanthropic leadership, Circle of Life 100 — a women’s group that promotes philanthropy in support of Scripps Encinitas — honored Mary Ellen Grant with the 2008 Distinguished Achievement Award.

A gift to expand Scripps emergency care

Mary Ellen understands firsthand the benefits of supporting our hospital. Nearly 11 years ago, her husband, Tom, developed a rare disorder, multiple nervous system vasculitis, and required multiple medical treatments.

During the couple’s many visits to the emergency department at Scripps Encinitas, the Grants discovered a way to give back to the hospital that cared for them. Recognizing the need to alleviate overcrowding and extended wait times at Scripps Encinitas, Mary Ellen and Tom made a significant gift to help expand the hospital’s emergency department.

Combining volunteerism and philanthropy

Beyond making a generous contribution, Mary Ellen has also invested great time and energy motivating others to support Scripps Encinitas. She encourages others to get involved so they, too, can experience the pleasures of volunteerism and philanthropy.

She is a volunteer at Good Things, Scripps Encinitas Auxiliary’s resale shop in Solana Beach that benefits Scripps Encinitas.

“I work with a very dedicated group of women at Good Things,” says Mary Ellen. “We’re all there working together to help ensure the best medical care is available to our family, friends and neighbors in the community.”

Mary Ellen’s involvement and dedication are helping to transform our community and her spirit of generosity will continue to inspire others for years to come.
