Scripps Supporter LaVerne Briggs Honored at Wine, Women and Shoes Event

On Sept. 10, 2009, Circle of Life 100 honored LaVerne Briggs, supporter of Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, with the 2009 Distinguished Achievement Award at the group’s fifth annual celebration, Wine, Women and Shoes. The stylish affair raised $100,000 to benefit women’s diagnostic imaging equipment and technology at Scripps Encinitas.

“I think this year’s beneficiary is critical to the health and vitality of women in our community,” says Briggs. “Having the latest diagnostic equipment, right here in Encinitas, may encourage more women to get regular mammograms and enhance the detection of breast cancer at its earliest stages.”

For more than four decades, Briggs and her husband, Blaine, have been dedicated to advancing health care for their community. While living in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa, the Briggses volunteered and contributed to medical enhancements at Blank Children’s Hospital and Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Nearly 30 years later, their commitment to community care continues through generous support of Scripps Encinitas — from providing philanthropic leadership to advocating for the expansion and modernization of the North County nonprofit hospital.
