The combined heart programs at Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla are one of the six California hospitals recognized on Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2013 “100 Hospitals With Great Heart Programs” list. The publication first identified hospitals that offer outstanding heart care, and then the editorial team then made final selections based on clinical accolades, quality care and contributions to the field of cardiology.

All of the hospitals on the list have been recognized for excellence in cardiology by reputable health care rating resources, such as U.S. News & World Report, the American Heart Association, the HealthGrades and the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

“This honor is the direct result of the incredible dedication and talents of our hospitals’ staff and physicians, and further demonstrates the consistent high-quality heart care that Scripps provides,” said Dr. Paul Teirstein, medical director of the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute.

Scripps Health is currently constructing the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute on the Scripps La Jolla campus. The new cardiovascular facility, which is expected to open in 2015, will include 168 inpatient beds and a center for graduate medical education for physicians, among other additions.

Annually, more than 55,000 patients receive their cardiovascular care from Scripps, making it San Diego County’s largest heart care provider. And, Scripps is the region’s only cardiovascular program consistently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best in the country.
