North County Scripps Doctor Builds Bridges for Poor in Vietnam

Physician's charitable foundation honors memory of his son

Dr. Hei Le started a foundation to build bridges for children in Vietnam in memory of his late son.

Dr. Hai Le is a primary care physician at Scripps Coastal Medical Center Vista with an inspirational story about resilience in the face of tragedy.

Dr. Le and his wife, Loan, started the Ansel Foundation Project two years ago after the loss of their only child, Ansel, who attended Carlsbad High School. Their project funds the construction of bridges in their native Vietnam to help children get to school safely during periods of heavy flooding near their homes.

Dr. Le’s story is featured today in the UT San Diego’s Making a Difference column on A-1. Read the full story: Building bridges helps couple find way through grief.
