As news spread that a San Diego State University student had contracted meningococcal bacteria, better known as meningitis, local news media sought trusted medical sources to help explain what may have happened.


NBC7 San Diego interviewed Mark Shalauta, MD, Scripps Clinic Rancho Bernardo family medicine specialist, who shared his insights on current vaccinations. Dr. Shalauta is an expert in childhood and adult immunizations and serves on the Scripps & San Diego County immunization committee.
