Quality
The Quality Priority
A commitment to quality care and information
Quality of care and service is important to you, your loved ones and the thousands of Scripps nurses, physicians, and other clinical and support staff who strive to provide hundreds of excellent health care experiences each day.
At Scripps Health, the quality of the health care we provide is our highest priority. We know you have a choice of health care providers and we feel a responsibility to not only provide you with quality care but also help you understand the quality data published here and elsewhere that can help you make informed health care decisions.
It’s important to understand that quality measures include both a component in which our individual quality successes are rated and a comparative standard that compares our quality results with those of other health care organizations. Quality care can be very difficult to measure, so results are based primarily on documentation of the care provided, and all measurements vary as Scripps and other health care organizations strive to continuously improve.
In addition to sharing our quality measurements with you, we use them to identify our best practices, as well as where our processes need improvement. Rest assured that every quality result you see reported is being examined, shared and addressed throughout the Scripps system. Health care is constantly changing, so we must constantly review the way we provide it.
We provide these results as a service to you. We want your health care experience at Scripps to be unequaled, and continuous quality improvement is how we get there.
There are a number of public and private agencies that also provide health care quality data for consumers. You’ll find the criteria we report on this site are similar in many regards, with one notable exception. Most public health care quality reports provide data that is greater than a year old. While it takes a few months to compile our data and conduct extensive quality checks to ensure data accuracy, we are able to report data that is much more recent than what you will find on external agency websites.
Our objective with this site is to provide you with the most current quality data available at Scripps, as well as with information on what the data means and why it’s important. Our plan is to continue to expand our quality reporting and your access to health care quality resources, and we’re very much interested in your feedback.
Note: Though we’ve addressed standard quality measures on this site, recommended care and treatments discussed may or may not be right for every patient. For example, a standard treatment to help prevent a heart attack is to take aspirin daily. However, you shouldn’t take aspirin if you are allergic to aspirin. ALWAYS consult your physician before taking any medications or following any treatment regimen.
