Internal medicine specialist, Thomas Carter, MD, believes in building long-term relationships with his patients. It is these relationships that Dr. Carter finds most rewarding in his practice. Whether he is treating a common cold, a major illness, or putting together a complex treatment plan, he enjoys caring for patients in a variety of circumstances.
As a general internist, Dr. Carter provides comprehensive primary care with an emphasis on preventative care. He believes that the majority of illnesses can be prevented or modified when patients take a proactive approach to their health. He also emphasizes adjustments in lifestyle to prevent illness and improve the quality of life for his patients.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities at Scripps Clinic, he is devoted to medical education. Dr. Carter has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians and is a clinical faculty member of the Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is also a clinical faculty member of the UCSD School of Medicine, where he instructs medical students and internal medicine residents.
A native of San Diego, he spends his free time staying active outdoors, including hiking, surfing, and playing tennis.
