Allen Johnson, MD

As a cardiologist, Allen Johnson, MD, provides comprehensive cardiac care and treats patients with a variety of cardiovascular issues. His areas of clinical interest include adult congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathies. In addition to his clinical practice, he conducts research on the function of the heart and its chambers, as well as various forms of heart failure and the effect of arrhythmias on the function of the heart.

Dr. Johnson is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, as well as a fellow and past president of the American Heart Association, San Diego chapter.

Dr. Johnson believes human interaction is central to the art of medicine. While digital technology can improve healthcare, he feels it should not be a replacement for face-to-face contact. He also values the relationships that he builds with his patients and emphasizes the whole patient including the physical, social and psychological aspects of a person’s life.

Throughout his career he has been the recipient of many honors and awards including the following.

  • Best Doctors in America, 1997-2013
  • Top 1 Percent of Cardiologists in America, US News and World Report, 2011 and 2012

  • America’s Top Physicians, Consumer’s Research Council of America, 2004-2012
  • Top Cardiovascular Medical Doctors, 2005-2012
