Biography

Dr. Stein is the director of Electrophysiology and director of the Cardiology Teaching Service at Scripps Mercy Hospital. He is also a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine.


He received his medical degree from Northwestern University. A native of Illinois, he came to San Diego for his internal medicine internship, residency and clinical cardiology fellowship at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He also completed a clinical and research cardiology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Lown Cardiovascular Laboratories, both at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.


Dr. Stein is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, electrophysiology and critical care medicine, and he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Stein was voted the Ralph P. George Teacher of the Year in 1987, 1993 and 1997, and he has twice been the recipient of the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award, presented by the housestaff at Scripps Mercy.
