Naveen Gupta, MD

Naveen Gupta, MD, a member of the pulmonary and critical care division at Scripps, treats a full range of pulmonary and critical care diseases. These include asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary vascular disease, sepsis, and respiratory failure, among others.

Dr. Gupta’s philosophy in providing care is to offer the most up-to-date, highest quality, evidence based medicine. He believes that the best outcomes are achieved by following the guidance of rigorously conducted clinical studies. He also believes in actively involving the patient in his or her medical care, because this allows for the development of trust in the doctor-patient relationship.

When he is not in the clinic or the ICU, he spends the bulk of his remaining time at The Scripps Research Institute investigating stem cell based therapies for severe lung injury and sepsis. Here he is also an assistant professor of molecular and experimental medicine. He has also been actively involved with the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Gupta received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University where he graduated with honors and distinction. He has also been the recipient of multiple awards including the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine Training Award, the Parker B. Francis Foundation Fellowship, and the National Institutes of Health Clinical Scientist Career Development Award.

Outside of work Dr. Gupta enjoys spending time with his family, visiting national parks, and hiking in the open spaces of San Diego and California.
