Healthy French Toast Recipe

This healthy French toast is lower in carbs than a traditional version because it has reduced-carb whole wheat bread and is topped with sugar-free syrup instead of powdered sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup egg substitute
  • 1/4 cup skim milk
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • Cooking spray
  • 12 slices light whole wheat bread
  • 4 Tbsp sugar free pancake syrup

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg substitute, skim milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.
  2. Dip bread into mixture, but do not soak. Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and cook dipped bread over medium-high heat until browned on each side.
  3. Serve two slices with 2 tsp sugar free pancake syrup.
