With your help, we can help others in the future
In addition to pursuing a cure for the rising epidemic of diabetes, clinical research offers people living with the disease the opportunity to access new therapies and resources for treatment and an improved quality of life.
Carefully conducted clinical research trials, which study human volunteers to answer specific health questions, are the fastest and safest way to find treatments that work in people and ways to improve health.
The Scripps Whittier Diabetes Institute conducts clinical trials on an ongoing basis for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Trials are conducted in La Jolla and Chula Vista clinic sites by a clinical research team of experienced physicians, nurses, and others, many of whom are bilingual in English and Spanish.
All team members provide culturally sensitive education, care and service with a special focus on patients and their families.
See our list of program locations (PDF, 65 KB) to find the clinical research sites.

What is the purpose of this study?
This study is being conducted to test the effectiveness and safety of an experimental agent called Prochymal. Prochymal is an adult human stem cell therapy being tested for use in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
This study will test whether Prochymal can treat patients’ type 1 diabetes mellitus in combination with the standard care they would receive from a doctor according to ADA clinical practice recommendations
