Scripps Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation
Physicians at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital created San Diego’s first liver transplant program in 1990. The success of that endeavor allowed for further growth into the field of transplant medicine. Within a few years, the program expanded its offerings to include pancreas and kidney transplants, as well as a living donor program for kidney and liver transplants.
Today Scripps Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation continues to provide leading edge care for people in need of a transplant. Our strengths are not limited to our surgical expertise, but also include the broad scope of medical and support services available before and after the actual transplant. Highlights include:
A comprehensive team
From insurance coordinators to transplant nurses and social workers, our staff works closely with each patient to ensure their smooth transition through the transplant process and beyond.
Free support services
Patients and their loved ones can take advantage of services that lend education and emotional support, including liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant classes and a monthly liver and kidney disease support group.
Clinical research
In order to discover new treatment options and better transplant methods, our physicians participate in a variety of research activities.
An integrative approach
To produce a new standard of comprehensive care for transplant recipients, Scripps Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation is working jointly with the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine. Together, they work to reduce patients’ long-term risk factors through a melding of leading edge Western medicine along with nutrition, exercise, stress mastery and emotional support.
