Our Research Legacy
Committed then and now
When Ellen Browning Scripps founded the 44-bed Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla, California in 1924, she created a compassionate place of caring for those who were ill or injured, as well as a home for medical scientists to research new and promising treatments. For more than 82 years, Scripps has continued to build upon this legacy.
Scripps research and advances that are helping people reclaim their health include:
- Artificial cervical discs
- Arterial liver transplants
- Artificial corneas
- Statin safety studies
- Stem cell heart treatments
- Gastric pacemakers for diabetes
- Laboratory-grown cartilage
- Advanced stroke treatments
- Neuroimaging studies for epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s
Whether it’s in the lab, at the bedside or as part of hundreds of ongoing clinical trials, our commitment to research is firmly grounded in our mission.
Scripps is a leader in the type of research that changes lives today.
