Participant Criteria
Are You a Wellderly Person?
Do you, a loved one or friend qualify to volunteer for Scripps’ Wellderly Study? See our list of criteria below to find out.
List One
History of any of the following conditions excludes an individual from the Wellderly study:
- Cancer
- (With exceptions for some skin cancers: SEE BELOW)
- Heart disease, such as coronary artery disease or heart attack
- Stroke or mini-stroke, which is a transient ischemic attack (TIA)
- Deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism, which are also known as a blood clot in the leg or lung
- Chronic kidney disease
- Autoimmune condition (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s or Lupus)
- Diabetes (fasting blood glucose greater than 126 or hemoglobin A1C > 6.5)
- Aneurysm

The following conditions are more expected in the aging process, and therefore are acceptable in the study:
- Arthritis (osteoarthritis) or osteoporosis/osteopenia
- High blood pressure controlled with under 2-3 medications
- Benign prostate hypertrophy or “prostate englargement”
- Cataracts, glaucoma or macular degeneration
- High cholesterol
- Hypothyroidism
- Skin cancers (basal and squamous cell are o.k.)
