You may unwittingly be a big source of prescription drugs your teen is using. And more often than not, family medicine cabinets are their go-to spot of choice.
The Partnership For a Drug-Free America's latest survey has 1 in 4 teens reporting having misused or abused a prescription drug at least once in their lifetime, and 41 percent of teens mistakenly believe abuse of medicines is less dangerous than abuse of illegal street drugs.
Scripps is once again participating in the 14th annual National Prescription Take Back Day at four Scripps locations.
Why is Prescription Drug Disposal Important?
- It keeps others safe. Expired medications can cause harm to children, pets and others if they are ingested.
- It safeguards drinking water. Medication should never be flushed down the toilet. This can cause medication to enter the water supply. Flushing drugs can cause pollution to human water supplies and danger to natural aquatic habitats.
