Course Overview

The Scripps Health Alzheimer’s Care Conference is being offered to healthcare professionals who care for the patient with or at risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, in order to support them with the best in advanced tools for screening, evaluating, diagnosing and treating. The care conference addresses statistical national and local trends in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, focusing on prevalence, mortality, cost and burden to healthcare providers and caregivers. The latest in innovative standardized screening methods and evaluation protocols will be highlighted, to equip healthcare providers with the resources needed for frontline management of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Alzheimer’s and related dementia expertise at Scripps is evident in the quality of interdisciplinary health care professionals presenting information to enhance patient care across the continuum. Content will include a comprehensive overview of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and the most up-to-date screening, evaluation and treatment options.

Educational Objectives

After attending this live activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the incidence and prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in the United States and San Diego County.
  • List the reversible and non-reversible factors related to Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
  • Recognize the warning signs for cognitive impairment.
  • Utilize tools to develop screening process for cognitive impairment utilizing a standard algorithm.
  • Describe the standard diagnostic workup to evaluate patients with cognitive impairment.
  • Discuss the DICE approach for disease management of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
  • Identify resources available for screening, evaluation and disease management of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. For the purpose of re-licensure, the California Board of Registered Nursing accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. The majority of state boards accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ as meeting continuing education requirements for license renewal.
