International health missions in the South Pacific

Each year, several Scripps Clinic and Green Internal Medicine residents have the opportunity to join humanitarian missions serving medical clinics six days a week on the Solomon and Fijian Islands in the South Pacific.

During this experience, residents set up ad hoc medical clinics at churches, schools or village centers to provide what may be the only medical care the indigenous people receive during that year.

Patients present with a variety of health conditions and diseases not often found in the United States. While it is an incredibly demanding but rewarding experience, there are also opportunities to enjoy relaxation and the natural beauty of this region.
