Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program

The Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program combines the rigor, research opportunities and academic achievements of a large university medical center with the collegiality and familiarity of a community medical center.

Academic highlights

  • Over the past 15 years, 98 percent of graduates have passed their boards on the first attempt 
  • The program is accredited through 2019 by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) 
  • For those choosing fellowships, more than 97 percent match into one of their top three choices
  • Since 2006, 59 percent of graduates have stayed at Scripps as fellows, hospitalists or general internists
  • Alumni have gone on to major academic appointments across the country

Residency training highlights

  • A state-of-the-art procedure and examination simulation center run by our critical care attendings
  • Diverse patient populations, including active duty military and veterans at the Navy Balboa Hospital; homeless and low-income patients at St. Leo’s Mission; indigent patients in the South Pacific through international health assignments; and American Indian patients through the Indian Health Service
  • An internal medicine bedside ultrasound course that is led by our critical care and cardiology physicians during a bi-weekly didactics course, with daily hands-on teaching while rotating through outpatient cardiology clinic
  • A physician-scientist track
