Scripps Family Medicine residents have a total of four months of elective time during the PGY 2 and PGY 3 years.
The residents have many specialty electives available locally through our medical system, with local specialists and affiliated hospitals and clinics.
Some prior electives have included HIV care, integrative medicine, sports medicine, reproductive health and procedures. Many residents choose to pursue international medical experiences as close as Mexico or as far-reaching as Central and South America, Nepal, Fiji, Vietnam, Solomon Islands and Africa.
The program has several collaborative partners on the U.S.-Mexico Border, including the the VIIDAI organization, the UCSD Health Frontiers in Tijuana clinic, and we are exploring collaborative work with the Universidad Autonóma de Baja California Family Medicine Residency Program.
