Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego is the county’s longest established medical center and an academic teaching hospital.

The emergency department (ED) is one of the busiest in San Diego, seeing more than 50,000 patients annually.

The intensive care unit (ICU) consists of 32 medical and surgical beds. The medical ICU service consists of eight pulmonary critical care intensivists with two teams of internal medicine residents.

The trauma service consists of six attending trauma surgeons, five nurse practitioners, two clinical pharmacists and medical residents and fellows.

This specialized residency will train the resident to practice independently as the ICU specialist in a variety of practice settings such as medical ICU, trauma, general surgery and the emergency department. The resident will precept students and PGY-1 residents on ICU and Trauma rotations.
