Specialty rotations expand residents’ learning experience beyond the scope of their practice. Specialty assignments are available to Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Hospital residents in almost every area of medicine and related fields at all of the teaching locations.
Due to the modest size of the residency program, each resident is assured an opportunity to do every specialty rotation of interest. Unlike substantially larger residency programs, residents don’t have to compete for these assignments.
Most of the subspecialty training takes place in the ambulatory setting with only a few exceptions, which differentiates the Scripps Clinic and Scripps Green Internal Medicine Residency Program from most university medical centers.
In those service areas that have fellowships within them, residents have the opportunity to collaborate and work side-by-side with the clinical fellows. While residents and fellows work in parallel while evaluating and managing their own sets of patients, residents report directly to the supervising attending for every assignment.
This structure provides residents with direct and daily, one-on-one instruction from experienced and often nationally-renowned clinical and scientific faculty.
