The pharmacy practice residency program at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla begins July 1 each academic year. The application deadline is January 5.
As a 12-month residency, the program focuses on pharmacotherapy, research and teaching in a decentralized acute care pharmacy setting.
The pharmacy department is open 24/7 and includes a central pharmacy along with inpatient satellite locations. Our pharmacists provide a broad range of clinical services and work collaboratively with the health care team.
Scripps comprises five hospital campuses, and through this affiliation, residents participate in the system-wide management of clinical programs and operations.
The pharmacy residency program emphasizes clinical practice and proudly makes a strong distinction between clerkship training and residency training. It builds on the clerkship experiences gained in pharmacy school, and focuses on:
- Project management skills
- Teaching in a decentralized pharmacy practice model
Rotations are unique and challenging, giving residents opportunities to learn from a variety of specialists and environments—from trauma to solid organ transplant.
Additionally, the pharmacy department trains about 15 fourth year PharmD candidates annually.
