Scripps’ top-rated heart care program delivers help and hope

Cardiovascular disease — including heart disease, stroke and high blood pressure — is the number one cause of serious illness, disability and death in the U.S. For more than 50 years, America’s health leaders have joined forces in February to heighten public awareness of the problem and its solutions.

“As San Diegans, we’re fortunate to have the region’s top-rated heart program right here,” says Susan Taylor, executive director of external affairs at Scripps Health. “For more than a decade, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Scripps one of the nation’s best for cardiology and heart surgery.”

Scripps pioneering advances in heart care

Scripps physicians and researchers are at the forefront of some of the most advanced tests and treatments available, including wireless heart monitors, leadless pacemakers and heart valve replacement without the need for open heart surgery.

“It takes an entire team of people,” says Scripps cardiologist Kiyon Chung, MD, “but there’s nothing as gratifying as seeing a patient through a very difficult time and knowing that you had a part in that.”
