You can choose a Scripps doctor through a variety of Medicare Advantage or supplemental plans.
When you choose one of the Medicare Advantage plans listed below, you will have access to primary care and specialty care physicians at Scripps Clinic and Scripps Coastal Medical Center, along with many of our affiliated physicians including doctors with Scripps Physicians Medical Group and Mercy Physicians Medical Group.
Physicians in the Scripps network accept a variety of Medicare Advantage plans, including plans by:
- United Healthcare
- Blue Shield
- Health Net
- Community Health Group
- Anthem Blue Cross
- And more
To confirm your coverage, contact your physician’s office to find out which plans they accept.
Supplemental or “Medigap” coverage may be right for you. Supplemental Medicare insurance is an alternative to Medicare Advantage plans that allows you to create a specific coverage plan for your health care.
These plans help “fill the gap” by partially or fully covering expenses not covered by original Medicare. Supplemental plans are only available to purchase if you are enrolled in original Medicare. You cannot purchase Medicare supplemental insurance if you have a Medicare Advantage plan.
Costs vary with each supplemental product, so understanding each portion of your supplemental plan is important. Nearly all Scripps physicians accept a form of supplemental insurance coverage. Contact your Medicare insurance agent to learn more.
If you are covered by a combination of both Medicare and Medi-Cal (known as a "dual eligible"), you may automatically be enrolled by the State of California into an approved Medi-Cal HMO plan. If this plan does not include Scripps doctors, you may opt-out of that plan and join a new plan at any time.
