Biography

Matthew Martin, MD, is a general surgeon with a clinical interest and expertise in minimally invasive surgery, including robotics. His surgical practice includes hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction, gastrointestinal surgery including anti-reflux surgery, small bowel and colorectal disease and benign hepatobiliary conditions.


Dr. Martin is also fellowship trained in trauma surgery and surgical critical care and spent 24 years as an active-duty surgeon in the U.S. Army, including five combat deployments. He currently serves as the medical director for trauma research and for Trauma Graduate Medical Education at Scripps Mercy Hospital.


Establishing a strong and collaborative working relationship with his patients is a priority for Dr. Martin. He believes that good communication, open and honest discussion and shared decision-making will result in the best care and surgical outcomes for his patients.


Dr. Martin is a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American Surgical Association and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
