Devin Zarkowsky, MD, is a vascular surgeon who has a special interest in minimally invasive complex aortic repair, including branched and fenestrated stent grafts, as well as open aortic surgery. He offers a range of vascular care, including cerebrovascular disease, with traditional carotid endarterectomy as well as carotid stenting, including TCAR (TransCarotid Artery Revascularization), and limb preservation with open and minimally invasive endovascular treatment for PAD (peripheral arterial disease).
He believes patient care starts the moment a person calls for an appointment, continues to the operating room or interventional suite as needed and extends over a lifetime. He believes that surgical problems are best managed with open communication between patient and doctor and welcomes questions and concerns.
Research is important to Dr. Zarkowsky, and he has published in peer-reviewed journals and medical textbooks. Dr. Zarkowsky has been awarded grants sponsored by public institutions, as well as industry partners, and continues to pursue basic science work focused on endothelial cell dysfunction before and after revascularization for PAD and venous disease, as well as machine learning algorithms to improve acute limb ischemia diagnosis.
He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, Western Vascular Society and the Southern California Vascular Surgical Society. He regularly presents his research at national conferences and collaborates with his colleagues at Scripps on new ideas and medical technology.
While completing his fellowship at UCSF, he was awarded the prestigious TEACH award — recognizing exceptional educational efforts.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Zarkowsky enjoys spending time with his wife and three children enjoying everything Southern California has to offer, including the beach, soccer, jogging and swimming.
