William Stanton, MD, has been a physician for 46 years. He is medical director of the Scripps Cancer Center at Scripps Mercy Hospital’s San Diego campus.

As a general oncologist, he provides care for people with lung, colorectal, prostate, skin, blood and breast cancer, helping them gain access to effective treatment and support resources. He is especially interested in diseases of the blood and cancer in older adults.

Because blood diseases and cancer generally impact the whole patient and often the patient's family, Dr. Stanton believes care must be strategically planned to take advantage of all appropriate resources and disciplines. Care must be grounded in the patient's goals, and wherever possible, it should support those allied in the patient's care.

Outside of work, Dr. Stanton enjoys spending time with family, swimming and playing and composing music.
