Recognized as a leading authority in addiction medicine and integrative psychotherapy, Dr. Krista Roybal has the expertise to uncover the root cause of distress and disease, and a gift for making patients feel truly seen and understood.
Her compassionate, strength-based approach make her particularly adept at treating complex addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD and bipolar disorder. Dr. Roybal also specializes in benzodiazepine tapering, medical detox, psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychopharmacologic evaluations and medication management.
After attending New York Medical College and training at University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Roybal spent several years practicing family medicine, where she noticed a recurring theme among her patients – undiagnosed mental health issues manifesting as, or developing as a result of, physical symptoms. With a desire to devote more time to patients’ mental wellbeing and to gain a more in-depth understanding of the mind-body connection, Dr. Roybal went on to specialize in psychiatry at the University of New Mexico, where she was trained by one of Harvard’s top addiction psychiatrists.
While working in private practice and at top hospitals including Scripps, where she served as Co-Medical Director of the Scripps Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program, Dr. Roybal recognized a need for a more innovative approach to treatment – one that combined the warmth and individual attention found at a private practice, the collaborative team and neuroscientific focus of renowned medical facilities and her personal belief in holistic healing.
