Biography
Douglas Mellinger, DO, is a cardiovascular surgeon experienced in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery.
Dr. Mellinger has pursued active research on prosthetic cardiac valves, small diameter vascular grafts, graft rejection and cardiac xenograft transplantation. He has also published extensively on these procedures and has been a principle investigator in several clinical trials.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Mellinger received a prestigious Mayo Clinic Foundation scholarship and has since been awarded the University of Massachusetts/BMC Robert J. Tracy Award in Vascular Surgery. He has maintained membership in Sigma Sigma Phi, the osteopathic medical honor society, for nearly two decades. In addition, he is a current member of the California Lung Association, the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Transplantation and the American College of Surgeons.
