How to achieve your weight loss goals

Remember that bariatric surgery is only a means to an end — improved health and quality of life. To keep you on the right path toward meeting your weight loss goals, we offer:

  • Monthly bariatric support group
After bariatric surgery, you will need education and support from others, especially from people who have already had the surgery. Held monthly, each free, 60-minute session explores various topics relevant to life after bariatric surgery. We strongly encourage both pre- and post-surgery patients to attend.
  • Scripps Living Lite (behavioral change program)
As time passes, old habits may return and derail your progress. To combat this, take advantage of Scripps Living Lite, a strategic, motivational and supportive plan for losing weight with an emphasis on lifestyle change. Scripps Living Lite includes weekly group sessions and one-on-one phone coaching at three convenient locations (Carlsbad, Carmel Valley or Rancho Bernardo). Sessions include skills and strategies to help you get the most from your eating and exercise plan. Flexible participation allows you to remain in the program until you have achieved your goals; you can re-enter at any time for a personalized “tune up” to stay motivated and on track. Sessions are ongoing.
  • Follow-up with a registered dietitian
Maintaining healthy, appropriate eating habits after bariatric surgery is necessary for maintaining your weight, managing any health conditions or illnesses, and staying well-nourished and energized. Your registered dietitian is trained to help you successfully tackle all of these areas.
  • Follow-up with a clinical psychologist
Our clinical psychologist provides a comprehensive range of services to help you achieve your weight loss goals. These services include targeted individual psychotherapy and support.
  • Follow-up with a medical weight loss clinician
It is not unusual to hit a weight plateau or struggle with hunger or cravings after bariatric surgery. You are not alone. Visit with one of our specially trained, board-certified medical clinicians who will help you identify underlying problems and find long-lasting solutions.
  • Ongoing support from a bariatric registered nurse
When you return home from the hospital, you will receive a follow-up phone call from our bariatric nurse, who will answer any questions you may have and ensure a safe, healthy postoperative course. As time goes on, you may reach out to our RN with any bariatric concerns as you live your new life.
