Advanced gynecologic detection and diagnostic services

Regular breast and pelvic exams by your OB-GYN can help detect cancers and vaginal infections earlier for faster treatment and an easier recovery. Scripps obstetricians and gynecologists use the most advanced imaging and diagnostic equipment for the most accurate results.

Our routine tests and advanced diagnostic procedures include the following.

Pelvic exams

Annual women’s health exams include pelvic exams and Pap tests (also called Pap smears) to check for vaginal infections and gynecologic cancers.

Exams may also include screenings for HPV (human papillomavirus), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), other pelvic and vaginal infections, and infertility.

Breast exams and breast imaging

These preventive and diagnostic tests include physical exams, digital mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI as needed. Learn more about mammograms and breast imaging.

Ultrasound imaging

Scripps offers advanced imaging technology at several locations throughout the county, including many types of ultrasounds as well as hysterosalpingogram (HSG).

Diagnostic procedures

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy uses a small camera surgically inserted through the navel for a better view of the pelvic organs.

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy uses a small scope inserted through the vagina to view the lining of the uterus.

Colposcopy

During colposcopy, a microscope is inserted into the vagina for a more detailed look at the surface. This is often used to help guide a biopsy.

Dilation and curettage (D&C)

During this procedure, also known as a D&C, the cervix is dilated and the uterine lining is gently scraped.
