Therapy Dogs Honored at Scripps La Jolla

Pet Therapy Party Held in Celebration of National Volunteer Week

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the volunteer services department of Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla hosted a “Pet Therapy Party” on April 23, 2010, to recognize the exceptional work of our select group of therapy dogs and their handlers. The pet therapy party was an opportunity for the therapy dogs and their handlers to get to know each other and be rewarded for all of their hard work. Throughout the year, the dogs have provided comfort and companionship by visiting with hospital patients. These visits have helped increase emotional well being, promoted healing, and improved the quality of life for the patients as well as staff. During the party, Hospital Chaplain Rev. John Whitacre conducted a “Blessing of the Pets.”

The Pet Therapy Party was profiled on San Diego’s NBC affiliate, channel 7, KSND and Fox 5 San Diego.
