Edward Ross Jr., MD

E. Victor Ross MD, CAPT MC, USN (ret.) attended Mississippi State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in physics. He obtained his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine where he was a junior year inductee into Alpha Omega Alpha. Following internship Dr. Ross went to Sasebo, Japan as a General Medical Officer. In 1992 he completed a three-year dermatology residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. In 1994 he was the first Navy-sponsored fellow in photomedicine and lasers at Massachusetts General Hospital. While there, he conducted basic research experiments and human clinical trials in photodynamic therapy and novel laser applications in dermatology. He was honored as the 2001 Navy Recipient of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Award for Excellence in Military Medicine.

Dr. Ross is presently the director of the Scripps Clinic Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology Center in Carmel Valley. He is a frequent lecturer at national and international meetings in cutaneous laser medicine. He also serves on the editorial board of two major dermatologic journals.

In April 2007, Dr. Ross was appointed president of the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery (ASLMS), the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in patient care by advancing laser applications and related technologies. He served a one-year term. In 2008, he was elected to the board of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

His special research interests are laser skin resurfacing, photodynamic therapy, non-ablative skin remodeling, laser treatment of leg veins, laser treatment of acne, and laser hair reduction in dark skinned patients. He is the author of over 50 articles and seven book chapters. As a consultant and researcher, Dr. Ross is presently investigating novel approaches in lipolysis as well as conducting comparative trials of intense pulsed light and laser sources in skin rejuvenation and other cosmetic applications. In 2010, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery recognized him with the Caroline and William Mark Memorial Award for his lifetime contributions to research.
