Prior to attending medical school at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), William Bugbee, MD, received an undergraduate degree in biology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he graduated magna cum laude. He continued his medical training at UCSD Medical Center, where he completed an internship in surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Bugbee then finished fellowship training in adult reconstructive surgery at the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandria, Virginia. He is member of many professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Prior to joining Scripps Clinic, Dr. Bugbee was director of the UCSD Cartilage Transplantation Program. His areas of expertise include joint reconstruction, arthritis surgery and cartilage transplantation.
